WHAT IS AN INITIATIVE?

Dr. Steiner was prolific in founding and/or assisting with the development of new approaches and practices in the fields of:

  • Education

  • Biodynamic Farming

  • Anthroposophical Medicine

  • Social Reform (three-folding)

  • Architecture

  • Visual Arts

  • Performing Arts

  • Philosophy

    • Goethean Science

    • Spiritual Research

    • Knowledge and Freedom

    • Christianity

All of these initiatives arose out of the questions that others asked to Dr. Steiner. Through Dr. Steiner’s Spiritual-Scientific research and knowledge, he answered these questions and provided guidance. These initiatives were brought to fruition by many other people and continue to be worked on individually and collaboratively, in many cases furthering the Spiritual-Scientific research.

The Berkshire-Taconic region is rich in individuals, groups, and organizations (both non-profit and for-profit) that actively pursue the work that Dr. Steiner initiated as well as to further research and develop those initiatives. Some of this work is well established and some are themselves "initiatives" that are intended to explore more deeply the relationship between an activity and Anthroposophy.

In its essential form, an Anthroposophical Initiative embraces the foundational thought that the human being and the physical world are both manifestations of a spiritual reality.

Each specific initiative therefore explores how the human being, as a spiritual being, collaborates in relationship with the spiritual reality of the physical world and other human beings, harmoniously and lawfully.
